Dear Maggie,
I’m so very sorry to learn of your loss. I wish you all the love, contentment and support that the world can muster. Your presence at Goldenacre enriched my own time there. I hope that you’re now surrounded by family and friends who can similarly enrich your own life at this difficult time. Take care – and very best wishes. Alex.

We just learned of Henry's passing today so our condolences are somewhat belated. I enjoyed Henry's company as a fellow diving student when he arrived in St Johns . Later we worked together in the hospital and he was also a patient and a friend. We have missed him and his family since they left St Johns . The world has lost a thoroughly competent and pleasant human being.
Robin and Hazel Gamble extend their heartfelt condolences.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Manson at the Met campus in 2019. Once I figured out his Shetland Island accent I loved listening to his stories of diving medicine and his early days in Canada at St Johns. He was a kind and very conscientious Anesthesiologist.

I was saddened to hear about Henry's passing. Barbara Wood phoned me and many in the St. John's anesthesia milieu will recognize her name with her voice being the same as 1980. All of us were close to Henry Manson as he was an exceptional person. He, along with Drs. Dennis Reid and Alan Baxter, were responsible for the education of many anesthesiologists who have had significant careers from Vancouver to St. John's. Each of us have stories that we continue to pass on to our colleagues and students. Certainly I remember the "Darth Vader" connection of Dr. Ed Redmond. In any case, Henry, I will say a prayer for you and see you in another life. Brian Hamilton, Fredericton, New Brunswick

Henry was a great character and always had insights and stories to contribute. He was a great mentor to me and others in hyperbaric and diving medicine and in anesthesiology. His attention to safety in medicine and diving was an inspiration to many. Henry was also something of a philosopher, with many of his sayings remembered and repeated long after he left Newfoundland. Not all his sayings could be repeated in polite company! An example of one that could is "if I was happy I wouldn't be here!" Henry was brilliant and yet in his own way modest. He inspired more people than he ever realized. Henry was unique, and there is no one that can fill his shoes! I am so sorry for his loss. And yet, it is remarkable that he lived and continued to work so long after the loss of his twin brother Andrew, also a character. Henry influenced my life and that of many others. My sincere sympathy to the whole family, Henry will be greatly missed.

With my sympathy to the Manson family,
I had the pleasure of working with Henry for 15 years both in Labour & Delivery and PACU. We had a great working relationship and respect for one another. I admired him for his strong values and the way he cared for every single one of his patients. He always made me laugh with his stories and quick wit. This is the only picture I have of him. It was taken the day I retired in December 2014. May your memories help to comfort you in this time of sorrow. Rest in peace Henry.

To Maggie and Henry's family:
Dr. Henry John Manson
Henry, you were one of a kind. Your words of wisdom, your stories....all told in a lilting Shetland brogue that everyone strained to listen to, because we didn't want to miss a word!! You were a treasure as a colleague, a mentor, and a friend, and you are missed.
God gave us this special person and we have so many memories to cherish and to laugh about, because Henry was hilarious!
Maggie, this is a terribly sad time, but we rejoice and celebrate this man, this Henry Manson, who lived life well, and touched so many hearts! Dr. Ed Roberts and Sarah West.

To the family of Dr. Henry Manson
Henry and I both graduated from Aberdeen University Medical School a few years apart. We both joined the anesthesia training program at the Aberdeen Hospital again a few years apart. We met up again in December 1974 when we both did locums in St.Johns ,Newfoundland,Henry at the Janeway Children’s Hospital and me at the General Hospital both located on the shores of Quidi Vidi lake.We would meet up at the weekend for dinner and a beer at the Newfoundland Hotel. We both emigrated to Canada in 1976 and eventually became members of the anesthesia staff at the Health Sciences Centre in S.John’s and became good friends .
Henry’s passion was diving medicine and he got me involved .He formed the Atlantic Offshore Medical Support group with me and two emergency doctors.Henry was determined to be an expert diver. We went to the swimming pool at the Battery Hotel every Tuesday night to practice swimming under water for 25 yards. He did a naval diving course in London ,England and phoned me to say that the two first questions he was asked were “name” and” next of kin”.Henry designed a rat ventilator to study the effects of various concentrations of helium, nitrogen and oxygen on rat brains.I could go on and on.Suffice to say Henry was an outstanding physician in both anesthesia and diving medicine. He had an aptitude for research and innovation never fully exploited. He had a smile that lit up the room but if you made a fool of yourself his glare would bring you to your senses. We spoke on the phone in 2019 and said we should get together but unfortunately we never got round to it. He was truly one of a kind.
My deepest sympathy ,
Dr.Dennis Reid.
