David James Harvie, 80 passed away peacefully on January 11, 2022 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario due to complications from pneumonia and renal failure. David was born in Leamington, Ontario to Ruth Harvie (Gardner). As a teen, he spent his summers at home in Harrow, working on his uncle Kyle Gardner's farm. He attended and graduated from Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf in Belleville, Ontario where he was very active on many of the school's sports teams. David married his first wife Bernice Edith Spence, knowing her from their days at Sir James Whitney. They married and within a few years started their family. First came a boy, Kevin David, and then a girl, Joni Bernice. As a family they loved going camping and on road trips discovering the sights of North America. Despite their marriage coming to an end, David and Bernice maintained a strong friendship. In his later years, he met and fell in love with Monica Toth and was proud to take on the role of stepfather to her three children, Maureen, Michael and Merrilyn Seguin. David was very active in the Deaf community, especially in Windsor and London, volunteering his time for Windsor Association of Deaf events as well as the Deaf Jamboree. He will be known throughout many circles as a keen Euchre player and regular participant of many card tournaments. He is survived by his children Kevin (Scott), and Joni (Eric) and precious granddaughter Tianna. He was preceded in passing by his parents John and Ruth Malott, and his wife Monica Harvie. A private funeral service will be held at Gerald A. Smith Funeral Home in Harrow, Ontario. Due to Covid protocols, a Celebration of David's life will be held later and will be announced by the family.
