Obituary of Earl Scott Iler
ILER, Earl Scott
It is with sadness that we announce Earl Iler passed away on June 25, 2023, at the age of 97 years. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Betty (Woodall, 2014), brother, Harley (2021), his sister-in-law, Lorna (2015), his sister-in-law, Norma Woodall (Betty’s twin, 2011), his niece, Maribeth (2010), and his parents, E. Scott (1960) and Mabel (Brush, 1982). Cherished father to Gregory Iler (Beth Kinnaird) of Harrow, and Susan (Bill Litwin) of Highgate, loving grandfather to Emily (Kody Stomp), Cameron, Nicole, and Amanda, and great-grandfather to Oakley Stomp. Survived by one nephew, Brian Iler (Mary Brock), and two nieces, Miriam Page (Richard, 2009), and Madelyn Iler, and their extended families. Earl’s life was devoted to faith, family, and farm. Before his final year, he lived his entire life on the Iler Settlement, the sixth generation to farm in Colchester South. As a progressive field crop producer, he built a viable operation, adopting new technologies, and taking pride in his red (IH then Case IH) farm machinery. He enjoyed the challenges of farming and was quick to engineer solutions to each mechanical need. His welded inventions were many and varied. He served in variety of leadership roles as an active member at the First Baptist Church, Kingsville (since 1937), including Board of Deacons chair, Building Committee chair, and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a founding member of the John R Park Homestead Advisory Board. His cherished Airedale terriers brought him much joy. He also enjoyed his boats, motorcycles, go-karts, snowmobile, and cars (especially his 1957 Austin Healey). Special thanks to the staff at Sunrise of Windsor and Emily Stevenson for their extraordinary care in his last years. Visitation at Gerald A. Smith Funeral Home 197 King St. W. Harrow on Thursday June 29, 2023 from 6-8 pm. A funeral service to celebrate Earl’s life will be held on Friday June 30, 2023 at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Rev. David Page, of First Baptist Church Kingsville, officiating. Interment at Iler Cemetery. Memorial donations to Salvation Army, Canadian Bible Society, or First Baptist Church Kingsville would be appreciated. You may send your online condolences and share memories at www.geraldasmith.ca
