Obituary of Maria Szilva
SZILVA, Maria (Dominyak)
Passed away peacefully in her 92nd year on June 4th, 2015. Predeceased by her beloved husband Jozsef (1979) and parents Jozsef and Ilona Dominyak (1967 and 1976). Loving mother to Joseph (Mokus), New York, Marika Gale (Matt), Harrow and George (Sheila), Sooke, BC. Proud and doting Grandmother to Devon Gale (Jodi) and Richael Szilva (Rob) with whom she spent much time and shamelessly spoilt. Great Grandmother to Austen and Miranda Gale and Abby Szilva, in whom she took great delight and was ever so grateful to have lived long enough to be part of their lives. Survived by her sister Juliska Toth, Debrecen, Hungary. Maria lived a remarkable life surviving great hardships with grace and tremendous resolve without bitterness or complaint. Having escaped with her husband and children to Canada in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution she embraced life in her new country with gratitude and joy and alongside her husband built a successful life. Maria possessed an immense heart and selflessly lavished love on all those around her, always only seeing the best in everyone and took great pleasure in volunteer work as a member of the Mindszenti Club and at the Red Cross Blood Clinic for many years. Maria was a beautiful person and will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known her. Many, many thanks to Dr. Catherine Yanchula for years of wonderful, gentle and meticulous care. Cremation has taken place with a private family interment. In lieu of flowers or donations please perform a random act of kindness toward strangers to honour all those who risked so much helping Maria and her family escape safely to Austria and then to Canada.
