Obituary of Kenneth Miners
Kenneth Andrew Miners: Second son of Charles Milton Miners and Emma Elizabeth Ball Miners departed this life age 94 at home in Harrow (South Colchester) Ontario, peacefully, spiritually, and in a special way Sunday evening April 21, 2013 surrounded by his beloved wife of almost 70 years, Joan Evelyn Macaw Miners, his daughter Susan, and sons Ian and Drew, grand daughter Sara, daughter in law Ruby, nephews Rodger and Stephen and neighbor Lumi. Ken has been a true guide for the entire clan. Kens brothers and sisters, Veta, Everett (Rodgers and Stephens Dad), Luella, Shirley, and Harold have preceded him in departing this life,as has his beloved daughter Cindy. Ken will be missed by all of us present at his bedside, and also his grandson Ryan, daughter in law Robin (Drews wife), brotherin law Ken Macaw with his wife Donna, Ken provided caring family patriarch guidance and support for Luellas daughters Marion and husband David Stephenson, Kathy, and husband Jim Douglas, Dorothy and husband Paul Wilkinson, Patricia and husband Douglas Fowler and Everetts daughters Pauline and Gwen and sons Rodger, Stephen and Arthur, and all the younger generation.
Ken was born in 1918 in Saskatoon, SK. He obtained his Masters in Chemical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan (1941) and served at the request of the Government of Canada during WWII making munitions to send overseas. Ken met Joan (a chemist) while making munitions at Nitro, Quebec. Ken & Joan married in 1944.Following the war Ken joined Miners Construction Company, working with his Dad and Uncles as Builders of Good Homes and commercial projects, including the hospital in which Joan gave birth to their first child, Susan. He and Joan and Susan moved east in 1948 and joined a number of their Nitro friends in the Saguenay region where he worked for the Aluminum Company of Canada (ALCAN) now known as Rio-Tinto and raised their children. For a number of years Ken also worked for Alcan Engineering Services in the Montreal office, During this time they lived in Beaconsfield, Quebec and Ken consulted with overseas aluminum company projects, helping with start ups, in particular recovery of chemicals used in the alumina extraction process, creating company savings and a cleaner environment. Ken retired from Alcan in 1981. Ken and Joan moved to Peterborough Ontario and created beautiful gardens and community friendships while doing community service. Ken and Joan moved to Harrow (South Colchester) in 2008 where they have enjoyed gardening and the wildlife, especially bird watching.
