To the Smith family: I only knew Virgil while at Essex High School. We ran cross country together for one season. The team consisted of four, who were brave enough to give it a go. In less than three months, I will have the privilege of marrying your granddaughter Desiree. It saddens me that we don't get to share that moment together, but I am uplifted knowing you will be there in spirit. I will always cherish the times we all spent together, memories made and the time I was fortunate enough to get to know you. You touched a lot of hearts, and many are broken right now, but we can take comfort knowing that you are at peace and with your beloved Grace watching down on us.

He was a very good and giving person and a good brother-in-law. I wish I would have gotten to know him and his family better. Losing my dearly departed sister Grace and Virgil is a very big loss and was also a big loss to him. May they rest in peace together and rejoice together in heaven in Jesus's name we pray, amen. Virgil Smith was like my own father. I am the mother of his son Benjamins first daughter Noelle. Dad took in my 3 children as his own grandchildren. He was always the glue that held us together. The best father the best grandfather.
There will never be another like him. I am heartbroken and devastated. He Went to church every Sunday he was just a great man. Dad I will miss you I don't know when my tears will stop. I thought I would see you on Noelle's bday July 4th
I love you so much my heart hurts me so bad right now.
Virgil Smith loved us all and we loved him and will always love him. I miss him.
