KEARNS, Evelyn (Watson)

Formerly of Harrow, passed away Thursday June 20th in Arlington Heights, Illinois at the age of 87. Wife of the late James Kearns (2006). Daughter of the late Harold (1970) and Margaret (2013) Watson. Mother of Doyle, Susan, William (Debra) and Patrick (Kathleen). Sister of Stuart Watson (Nina) of London Ontario and the late Marilyn (1931). Also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. After working for law firms in Harrow and Windsor, Evelyn moved to Chicago to work for the British Consulate. As a working wife and mother, she served as Director of Volunteer Services at Northwest Hospital in Chicago for more than 20 years while earning a bachelor’s degree and completing coursework toward a master’s degree. After retiring, she served as a volunteer at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights and was recently honoured for more than 1000 hours of service. Evelyn also started a writing career with a local newspaper writing a column “Someone to Be Thankful For” as well as writing short stories as part of a memoirs group. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Mount Prospect Illinois and served as an usher as well as on numerous committees/organizations. A Celebration of Evelyn’s Life was held at Trinity Methodist Church on Friday, June 28th. A graveside service will be held at Christ Church Cemetery, Colchester at a later date.
