Obituary of Edwin Buterbaugh

Passed away September 1, 2008, peacefully surrounded by his family at his Harrow home at the age of 65. Beloved husband of Pam (Garman). Loving father of Alan and Marlene Buterbaugh of Amherstburg, Diane and Scott Mertz and Tracy and Chris Bonyai of Harrow. Loving Grandpa of P.J., Mark, Jessica, Rachel, Alexandria, Eric, Matthew, Andrew and Sarah. Predeceased by his grandson Aaron (1996), his father Clifford (1998) and mother Lorraine (Reed) (2005). Ed was a well known and respected radio engineer for over 50 years working locally at CKLW Radio (The Big 8) as Vice President and Director of Engineering and as Director of Engineering at WJR Radio until his retirement. Ed was an innovator who designed and built broadcast facilities that consistently set new benchmarks in the industry. He was the recipient of many awards including the Carl E. Lewis Award from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and Billboard magazines Engineer of the Year. Ed loved his time with his family, his home on Lake Erie and watching U of M Football. Visitation at Gerald A. Smith Funeral Home 197 King St. W. Harrow Thursday from 3-5pm and 7-9pm. A service will be held to celebrate Eds life at Harrow United Church 45 Munger St. Harrow on Friday September 5, 2008 at 10:00am with Rev. David Steadman officiating. Interment at Colchester Memorial Cemetery. Memorial donations to be made to Windsor Regional Cancer Centre and Harrow United Church.
