To the Smith Family, Pastor Smith lived a life that was full of daily examples of how we should treat each other. As a child my dad (Kel Proctor) would not let me stay at my aunt's cottage in Colchester unless I attended church. I remember Pastor Smith coming by to visit with our family and offered his church. All my memories of the summer cottage include going to church in Colchester. Pastor Smith opened his church and home to our family many times. Remembering the life of a good man of God. Love Laura (Proctor) Williams

My deepest sympathies to the family of elder Smith, both the family of his who I know personally, and those I never met. It couldn't be more than a few days ago that I had a dream he was in. It's strange how that happens sometimes. He was a very wise man, as anyone who knew him could attest. You don't meet people better than Pastor Edsel Smith. I remember that he once said not long after Mrs. Smith had passed away, and someone asked him if he'd think about getting married again, or if he was "looking around", he said "Looking around? At my age, I'm not looking around, I'm looking up". That brought a pretty good laugh from his congregation, but they must have been accustomed to hearing wise snippets like that from him. He had a genuine reputation for them. Once again, my condolences to all his family. I have no doubt that you're very pround of what he accomplished in his 84 years, as any family fortunate enough to have a patriarch like him would be. Your's sincerely, Scott Kuli.

Pastor Smith will be surely missed! He has been a Father in the faith to so many people and I believe that his legacy will continue on. I remember the many times that as a child I went to Church at St. Mark's with my grand parents Rev. Norvil & Doris Wilson, listening to Pastor Smith's preaching so stirred me up as well as many who heard, and did the Word preached! I know that it had a positive effect on where I am now as a minister of Jesus Christ! Pastor Smith was a man of excellence! Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said it this way, "If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the host of heaven and earth will pause to say Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well." Pastor Smith was a great man who did his job well!

Our deepest sympathy is extended to all of Pastor Smith's family. Pastor Smith will be fondly remembered by myself, my husband Leo and all of our children, who's life all have been touched by Pastor Smith. We will have wonderful stories and memories to share with our granddaughter's of Pastor's genuine love for the Lord and his humble way of life. One of Pastor's often used phrases to us if he had become a little forgetful was, "charge it to my head and not my heart"! I know you are now rejoicing with the Lord you served so ferverently Pastor!!

When I was a child, I recall Pastor Smith visiting with my father (the late Rev. Donald Wright) several times. My father and I ran into Pastor Smith about a year of so ago. My father asked me to help him go over to Pastor Smith and he proceeded to thank Pastor Smith and tell him just how grateful he was for the counsel, advice, leadership and encouragement that he received from Pastor Smith when he was starting out in the ministry. Pastor Smith was very humble, he didn't say much, he just nodded head in acknowledgement and stated how nice it was to see his old friend and brother in Christ. Pastor Smith was an exceptional man! Men like these don't come around everyday! Now they are back togehter again in Glory!
