This is a photo of me when I was in high-school helping my team win a championship. I used Heaton gear my entire life ever since I got my first Heaton gloves when I was in high-school. It was simply the best gear ever made which is why it was used by the NHL's best goalies.. Patrick Roy, Martin Brodeur, Dominik Hasek, Tom Barrasso, etc.
I never had the opportunity to meet Brian in person but I'm sure we would have had allot of things to talk about.
Rest in peace goalie guru. I will be using his gear until my hockey days are done.

This is a sad day for me, I feel like I just lost a friend. The truth is, I don't like most people (strange words coming from someone who makes his living working with people) but I truely liked Brian and most of the guys from the old Heaton trounament hockey team. Even though I haven't seen Brian for a few years, I took comfort knowing that he was a phone call or email away. I will miss him and I'm truely sorry for your loss. It will take a greater light than I know to replace the one that just went out.

Sandra, I wanted to send my heartfelt condolences to you and your family about Brian. Although I haven't seen many of you in years, I still feel very strong ties with everyone I grew up with back in Harrow. So I'm still shocked and deeply saddened when I receive news like this. It sounds like Brian had a wonderful life in his 58 years and although he is missed, he obviously left the world a better place because of his time here. God bless.

Sally - You and Brian provided all of us with the greatest demonstration of true love, support and friendship. The connection you had with one another was obvious to those who were privileged enough to witness it. My last memory of Brian was sitting with him, watching you ride - he told me how happy he was that the two of you were able to share that passion, and how much more fun it became after you were involved. Brian's big smile, huge heart and wonderful sense of humour will never be forgotten, nore will his impact in the reining community both as a competitor and a friend. May God bless you with strength during this time and please know you will be in our thoughts and prayers.

I also watched Brian practice the night before he rode for the last time, he was definately ready to win. Steve remembers how inspiring Brian's freestyles were and is so very proud of his accomplishments. We are shocked and saddened and know it is a great loss for the reining community. My sincerest condolences to the Heaton family. The last time I spoke to Brian we talked about my upcoming visit to Kingsville and maybe a short tour of BHG. I am truly regretfull that I had not done it sooner. Brian was in innovator and a true giant of industry. There are many in the hockey world that will miss him not just for the equipment that he made but for the man that he was. Brian was kind, gentle and understanding but he was also passionate and unrelenting in his pursuit of perfection. I often called to just say hello and we often talked about the weather and of course hockey. I will miss those talks as much as I will miss the man. Brian Heaton, Requiesciat In Pace.

Sally, Please accept our condolences on Brian's untimely passing. We were shocked and saddened to hear the news and our thoughts are with you and your children. Due to Paul's illness we have often come face to face with our mortality and the fleetingness of life. So far we have been lucky but we make it a priority to do the things that we consider important now rather than later. It seems that Brian was also able to do that which gives some comfort. What a shock. I can still remember being back in high school and playing basketball, volleyball etc., against "Lefty" Brian. I didn't have near his talent for the sports but we enjoyed the competition. As is always the case, people tend to drift apart after high school and go on their own roads and careers. I wasn't aware of Brian's success in the hockey world until someone mentioned he had become a millionaire and I was very glad to hear it. As it was said in the paper, he will be missed by more than just friends and family but all those who wear the Heaton Hockey equipment he developed. It is truly a loss to all; he died far too early. He will be missed. PS-I'm 2 month's older than Brian and now I'll be listening more closely to my doctor.

Everytime I hear 'Mr. Postman' I will remember him and how much he was loved. He will never be forgotten. We are all here with you Sally, whatever you may need. Dear Sally and Family, How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord, Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word! What more can He say than to you He hath said, You, who unto Jesus for refuge have fled? In every condition, in sickness, in health; In povertys vale, or abounding in wealth; At home and abroad, on the land, on the sea, As thy days may demand, shall thy strength ever be. Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed, For I am thy God and will still give thee aid; Ill strengthen and help thee, and cause thee to stand Upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand. When through the deep waters I call thee to go, The rivers of woe shall not thee overflow; For I will be with thee, thy troubles to bless, And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress. When through fiery trials thy pathways shall lie, My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply; The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine. Even down to old age all My people shall prove My sovereign, eternal, unchangeable love; And when hoary hairs shall their temples adorn, Like lambs they shall still in My bosom be borne. The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose, I will not, I will not desert to its foes; That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake, Ill never, no never, no never forsake. Peace Be with you Joe and Cheryl

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Heaton families that is enduring the loss of a terrific man that was always thoughtful and considerate in dealing with those surrounding him through his voyage in life. His generosity and friendship will always be remembered and missed. I'll always remember him managing our juvenile baseball team as he pregame always read out the stats and batting averages and he always had a heartfelt offering for me of the weekly lowest batting average and had encouragement for me and never put me down for that fact. It's small things like this that make huge foot prints in other peoples lives that help them engender those same traits going forward, offering those same experiences and attributes to next generations of sport achievers. His contributions to our hockey teams were huge, even though we struggled to have a successful Ram county league team back in the 70's, he knew we were all winners in trying to foster a winning attitude and lay a litmus down for many other Ram teams that were eventually to become successful as testiment to Brian's vision in helping the small town Harrow from whence he came from, to collectively carryout his love for the sport. Once again, even though I could not make the funeral, I hope that a few kind words about Brian will help you deal with the anguish that you all feel and may give you solace to help you mend from your loss. Regards and heartfelt renderings, Tom Lypps and Family.

In the western horse world there are few who stand out..Brian's first exposure to reining horses consumed him with a passion that would last a lifetime.."How do I get a horse like that?"..Brian ask everyone within earshot.. "WANT TO",always was deeply imbeded within Brian..He searched out, and talked to, men like Craig Black and others..Soon Brian's interest became a reality..His burning desire to learn drove him to both sides of the border.. Not satisfied with the norm, Brian relized that success is only possible though effort.. Good horses and the ability to push the envelope was his goal..He soon became "ONE TO WATCH".. Brian cleverly put together, entertaining "freestyle" programs, that not only established him as a winner, but earned the respect of the top reiners in the industry, not to mention the large FAN base he was attracting.. A "want to be" is one who thinks he is, but is not.. A "WANT TO" is one like Brian who proves to all that he is.. The Hockey world and the Western Horse World May well remember Brian Heaton, as the man who made "THE PUCK STOP HERE" I was, and will always remain a FAN..Thanks for the memories. George Hewitt

Sally, I was so shocked and saddend to hear of Brian's passing. The last time I saw Brian was at our Can Pro Am Reining show 2006, sad to say it was so long ago. My Father(George Hewitt) and I, so appreciated his support at that show in which the proceeds went to the Canadian Mental Health Association. Brian sure WOW'ed the crowd with his rides and better yet, we were proud of the great man he was representing "Cowboys" for the public that came to meet some cowboys up close. He was warm, friendly and informative to all the public at this show. And of course, that wonderful smile. I am sure some little children went home that night dreaming of being a cowboy or cowgirl just like Brian. He made their day with his wonderful rides, and warm spirit. Both you and Brian touched the hearts of all that you have met, and we hope that you can now take some comfort in the love and prayer that surrounds you. Brian was an exceptional man, kind and gentle, with great humor and imagination. We looked forward to his freestyle routines each year...what would Brian do this time? I was working the gate the night of the futurity. I had the privilege of witnessing a moment of pure love and devotion pass between you and Brian as you sent him into the pen. I pray that you can hold that moment in your heart and know that you were in Brian's heart as he rode that last ride. Brian's death left a huge void in the reining arena. The early morning warm up pen will seem a bit colder without his warm smile, and the show pen will seem silent without his distintive YEE-YAH! Ride on Brian, ride on. Catherine and Wayne Blakely

I always looked forward to visiting him at his shop. Hearing his stories and generally being around such a creative and positive person made a real impact on me as a teenager. We talked colours, leather, five-holes and of course the finer points of deer hair and foam. Most importantly Brian always had time to share a few words of wisdom about business and life. I am very saddened by the passing of Brian. I regret that in the busy world of horse showing that I never got to know him better. But on the occasions that we passed each other at a show he never failed to say hello and show his trademark smile that so many of us became accustomed to. In the futurity I watched Brian and could not believe how beautiful and effortless his ride was. It the kind of ride I only dream of having. As he round his turn to approach his second stop I was totally captivated by the ease of his build in his approach. We all know what happened then. I have replayed it in my head time and time again. What we witnessed was not the end. We saw a fellow reiner who has worked so hard to get everything to work just once, have the ride of his life. Brian got to do it in front of all his friends, his peers and his loving wife Sally. I'm sure as he rounded that corner he had that trademark smile on his face and he too knew he was having a smokin' ride. If ever there was cowboy riding off into the sunset, this was it. Brian, whatever green pasture you may be riding on, keep riding and keep smiling because we will never forget you. My deepest sympathy and condolences go out to Sally and the Heaton family.

My deepest sympathy to the Heaton family. I had the pleasure of getting to know Brian through our work together on BHG. We shared some great stories and laughs. I was definitely inspired by his enthusiasm, words of wisdom and his "go get 'em" mentality. You're all in my thoughts and prayers. Jason Munger

Sally and Family - I was shocked to hear that Brian had passed away. What a tragic loss for your family. I'm sure he will be remembered in our community for the many contributions that he made, the hockey and tennis associations to name a few. My heart goes out to you all.
