Our deepest sympathy to the entire Szmyrko family on the passing of our friend Bill. Loving husband of RoseMarie, & loving father of Vicky, Cathy & Bill.Love, Ray & Lynne. Bill was one of those people you instantly enjoyed being around. He always wanted to help you repair something or start a new project. Death knocked at his door a number of times during the war, but he was destined to survive and touch all our lives. Bill and I spent many hours together working on various projects, and I loved hearing of his experiences during the war. Some stories I had heard before, but but once in a while there would be a new one, and I would listen very closely. When my father and Bill got together, they would talk and talk, (they both loved that) about fixing this or building that. They were of the same mould, and loved being outside, in the fresh air and sunshine. Yes, Bill seemed like a second father to me after my father passed away, and I always valued his advice and counsel. I will miss Bill, and occasionally, (for that split second), as I still do for my mother and father, I will think of calling him or stoping over for advice. It was a privilage to know you and a honour to be called your friend. Love, Ray "For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." James 4:14.

John and I were deeply saddened by the passing of a dear man,Wasyl, who loved to hear "Kapella" sing.Your tato referred to John as "you know that Chaps!" and John has always remembered that visit. As for myself,I will never forget your tato's wonderful love of life, always telling stories and repeating those familiar Ukrainian jokes that I heard from my own departed father,Stefan.Father Stephen,at my father's funeral used these words of comfort that I'd like to share with you;Cathy,Vicky,Bill,Mrs Szmyrko and Nick:"Do not stand at my grave and weep,I am not there.I do not sleep.I am a thousand winds that blow.I am the diamond glints on snow.I am the sunlight on the ripened grain.I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush,I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circling flight.I am the soft star that shines at night.Do not stand at my grave and cry,I am not there.I did not die." Dear Tato (Father): The memory of the days we spent together at Leamington District Memorial Hospital will be forever etched in my heart. We shared stories of your youth, your courageous and heroic war experiences, your arrival in Canada, your struggle in establishing yourself in a new county and of course, the ultimate joy in finding and marrying your beautiful bride. You especially beamed when you talked about us, your children, and grandchildren, and your hopes and dreams for us all. At one point you looked at me and said: "Why have we never talked about these things before?" I could only answer: "Nobody has time anymore." This is a great lesson to us all. On the day you passed into Paradise when we held your hands and touched you for the last time, I knew that you would be forever with us . . . guiding us and loving us. Tributes have been pouring in from family and friends who praise your honesty, humour, dedication, hard work and exemplary life. Even the nurses and doctors who cared for you when we couldn't be there shed tears for the patient who joked, teased and even danced with them in the Palliative Care Ward. How could anyone ever fill such large shoes (boots)? We will try by using your excellent life as an example for our children and our children's children. We Love You and will Miss You Forever.
