Obituary of Cynthia Riediger

53 years. August 25, 2010. Late of Calgary, AB, formerly of Harrow, ON. Loving mother of Megan Helene Fowler, Erin Lisa Fowler and also remembered by their father Martin Fowler, Calgary, AB. Loving fiance of Paul Mortensen, Calgary, AB. Beloved daughter of Harry and Margaret (Rempel) Riediger, Harrow. Dear sister of Rick Riediger and Betty Schmidt, Harrow, Susan and Henry Boon, Windsor, Randy and Cheryl Riediger, Harrow. Dear aunt of Scott, Peter, Allie, Jason, Sammi, Lukas, Ben, Kristen and the late Ryan (1999). Cindy's interests and activities were many and varied, but centered around three main areas: family, athletics and academics. Cindy's first passion was for her two daughters and was totally committed to all those who entered her life. Cindy was a natural athlete, participating in any sport that challenged her such as figure skating, squash and hockey; especially any activity that allowed her to spend time in one of her favorite places, the Rocky Mountains. Academically, she excelled in school, completing a B.Sc. in geology at the University of Waterloo, a M.Sc. at the University of BC and a Ph.D. at the University of Waterloo. Cindy accepted a position as a professor in the Department of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Calgary and quickly gained tenure, mentoring many students at the Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D. level. In recent years she worked for Shell Canada as a Senior Geologist. Cindy's passing leaves a gaping hole in the lives of everyone who knew her and she will be deeply missed. Resting at Gerald A. Smith Funeral Home 197 King St. W. Harrow. Visitation Friday 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A celebration Cindy's life will be held on Saturday August 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Harrow Mennonite Church 3167 Walker Rd. Harrow, with Pastor Greg Yantzi officiating. Interment at Colchester Memorial Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Harrow Mennonite Church.
