Obituary of Florien Vercruysse
VERCRUYSSE, Florien (Van't Zelfden)
(1935-2020)
Florien passed away peacefully on June 4, 2020 at Royal Oak LTC at the age of 84. She is predeceased by her husband Ralph (1974), and her two sons Robert (2014) and John (1986). She leaves behind her loving daughters Shirley, Debbie and Susan, son-in-law Joe, granddaughters Michelle and Nicole, and honourary daughter Colleen. Florien was born in Holland, the eldest of five children. The family came to Canada in 1954. Florien and Ralph met at the Harrow Fair, they married and moved to their farm on the 5th concession in 1957. Florien graduated from St. Clair College in 1984 as a Health Care Aid, and worked at the Essex Health Care Centre for many years. She is survived by her sister Corry (Jerry). Florien is predeceased by her parents, Arie and Audrey, her sister Ann (Andy), her brothers Peter (Barbara) and Arie (Sandy), brothers-in-law Roger (Mary), Michel (Bertha), Caesar (Annais), Gaby (Denise), and sister-in-law Dina (Jozef). She leaves behind an extended family and many close friends and neighbours in Canada, the United States, Belgium and Holland. In recent years, Florien shared her sense of humour and mischievous spirit with her fellow residents at Royal Oak LTC. With help from staff at Royal Oak and caregivers from Amy's Helping Hands, she made new friends and enjoyed the camaraderie, activities and outings. Florien's family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire care community at Royal Oak for their enduring support and compassion over the past three years. We are deeply grateful for their kindness and professionalism, especially in these extraordinary times. A private family service was held with Rev. Rick Janisse officiating. Interment at Colchester Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Gerald A. Smith Funeral Home 197 King St. W. Harrow 519-738-6662.
